Cipralex comes in 20 mg tablets which are used to treat major depression and symptoms of depressive illness, which include anxiety, loss of interest in usual activities, fatigue, change in appetite, feelings of worthlessness, difficulty thinking or concentrating and recurrent thoughts of suicide. it is also used to treat other mood disorders which affect daily activities and relationships with others, social anxiety disorder(social phobia), obsessive-compulsive disorder and generalised anxiety disorder.

Dosage

20 mg Cipralex tablets should be taken with a glass of water with or without food. You should take it once a day at the same time each day for several weeks or months depending on your condition and your physician's recommendations. The dosage can be increased depending on the condition you are being treated for. It is adviced that you take Cipralex 20 mg tablets as long as it is recommended by your doctor. This can be as long as 6 months.

How to Use

Cipralex contains Escitalopram which is an antidepressant which belongs in the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. The main active ingredient acts in the brain to correct the chemical imbalance which is thought to be one of the major causes of mood disorders and depression. This action helps relieve symptoms of depression and increase the stimulation of nerve pathways which control mood.

Side Effects

The most common side effects associated with Cipralex include generally mild and will disappear with continued use of the treatment. These side effects include loss of appetite, diarrhoea, dry mouth, fatigue, drowsiness, increased sweating, sexual problems, nausea, sleeplessness.

Precautions

Several medications interact with Cipralex tablets and should either not be taken with Cipralex or only after consultation with your doctor. Drugs which cause serious reactions include oxidase inhibitors, medications that affect blood clotting like warfarin and they may increase the risk of bleeding if taken with Cipralex. You should also not take Cipralex if you are allergic to escitalopram, pregnant or have liver disease.
