Generic Paxil (Paroxetine)

Paxil is an antidepressant. It is one of the SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) drugs. This medication is used to treat anxiety disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and premenstrual disorders. You can use this drug for other purposes not listed here. Paroxetine works by affecting chemicals in the brain in people suffering from anxiety, depression and other disorders.

Dosage:

Paxil is taken in the morning before taking a meal. Depressed patients should take 20mg per day. This may be increased by 10mg a day up to 50mg. After a week, patients are allowed to change the dose. For panic disorders, the initial dosage is 40mg per day. Patients can begin on a 10mg dosage a day which will be increased by 10mg a day after a week. However, the dosage should not exceed 60mg a day. Take this drug in the morning without food. Individuals who suffer from post-traumatic stress can take a dosage of 20mg a day. The general prescription for anxiety disorders id 20mg a day.

Usage:

Take this medication as prescribed by your physician. Read the instructions on the label of the bottle before consuming Paxil. Swallow the whole tablet hence avoid breaking, crushing and chewing the same. If you are using the liquid form of Paxil, use a medicine cup to get the correct dose. It may take up to five weeks until the drug takes effect on your blood system. Store this drug at room temperature.

Side Effects:

Some of the most common side effects of Paxil are: yawning, dry mouth, reduced sex urges, shaking, anxiety, dizziness, blurred vision, constipation, less sleep and loss of appetite.

Precautions:

Do not use Paxil if:

You are allergic to Paroxetine

You have been using MAO inhibitors in the last fourteen days

You are below eighteen years

You are pregnant or breastfeeding

You have kidney or liver complications

Epilepsy

Narrow-angle Glaucoma

You have a history of heart problems such as stroke or heart attacks

When using Paxil, it is advisable to keep off alcohol. This may increase the drug's side effects.
