Generic Ridaura (Auranofin)

Ridaura is a type of medication that is used to rheumatoid arthritis. It is also a good drug to use for non-therapy purposes such as physical therapy. This drug works by reducing pain caused by arthritis hence managing inflammation. It belongs to the DMARD (disease-modifying antirheumatic drug) class of drugs.  You can also use Auranofin to treat swelling in joints and morning stiffness. 

 

Take the medicine exactly as advised by your doctor. Auranofin is taken orally once or twice a day. You can take it with or without food. Doctors have always advised patients to take a less dose of this medicine to reduce side effects. This dose is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. It is advisable to read the small Patient Information Leaflet carefully before you start using it. The maximum dose you can take is nine milligrams daily. Take this drug the same time each day. 

 

When using Auranofin, avoid increasing or reducing your dose. This will increase the drug's side effects instead of improving your health condition. Take this medication frequently to get the most out of it. Do not stop or change the dose without consulting your doctor. Inform your doctor if symptoms persist. This medication can take up to four months before you see its full benefits. 

 

This medication imparts certain side effects on the user. These are: nausea, headache, heartburn, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, tingling of the legs, rapid hair loss, stomatitis, rapid heartbeats, unusual tiredness, yellowing of the skin, persistent cough, easy brushing or bleeding, frequent diarrhea, vomiting and sore throat. 

 

Before taking Auranofin, inform your doctor if you have:

• Lung problems

• Kidney complications

• Undergone chemotherapy recently

• Liver disease 

• An unborn baby or breastfeeding
