Generic Prevacid (Lansoprazole)

Product Information:

Lansoprazole is a type of medication that is used to treat stomach ulcers and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This medication belongs to the PPI( proton pump inhibitors) drugs. At the moment, it is available as an OTC (over-the-counter) drug. Lansoprazole works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach. PPIs are believed to aid in blocking the enzymes of the stomach that produce this acid. This way ulcers are prevented. You can also use this drug to heal heartburns.

Dosage:

Ensure you take the drug as prescribed by your doctor. Lansoprazole is available in the form of a powder kit which is mixed in an oral suspension before consumption. Prevacid on other hand is available in form of a capsule. These capsules can be found in 15 and 30mg. Prevacid24hour may be taken in twenty hours but once in a day for about two weeks. The drug may take up to four days to relieve stomach discomfort. Avoid taking one tablet each day. Do not start new treatment until two weeks have lapsed.

Usage:

When using Prevacid, it is important to note  that the drug does not work instantly. It may take up to four days till you witness change.  Do not use this drug on a long-term basis as it will lead to bone fractures in the wrist and spine. Recurrent use of Prevacid medicine will lead to development of low magnesium levels.

Side Effects:

Individuals may experience certain symptoms of low magnesium levels. They include: dizziness, seizures and irregular heartbeats. Lansoprazole and Prevacid may bring about certain side effects such as severe diarrhea, constipation, nausea, headache, stomach upset, rashes and swelling.

Precautions:

Prior to using Prevacid, tell your doctor if :

You are pregnant or breastfeeding

You are using alcohol or caffeine

You have any allergies

You are allergic to medicine

Do not give this medication to children aged below one year.
