Generic Provera (Medroxyprogesterone Acetate)

Provera is used to  treat abnormal bleeding among women who are going through menopause. This drug works by boosting progesterone in your body. This way, the body can produce enough progestin for women who have stopped having menstrual periods.  Provera is also used to reduce adverse menopause symptoms such as hot flashes experienced by older women. What's more is that you can use this drug to reduce the spread of cancer in the uterus. 

 

Take this drug exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Provera is administered according to your age, response to treatment and medical condition. It is taken orally with water. You can take this medicine once in a day depending on the number of days your doctor has prescribed. To stop amenorrhea, abnormal bleeding from the uterus, take this drug once in a day for five to ten days. Bleeding will stop after three to seven days of taking Provera. Inform your doctor if symptoms persist. 

 

Ensure you take this medicine as prescribed by your physician. Read the Medication label provided by your pharmacist or doctor carefully. 

 

Some of the slight side effects Provera has include: headache, weight loss, nausea, bloating, breast tenderness, drowsiness, blurred vision, dizziness, mood swings and vaginal discharge. Do not hesitate to contact your doctor if you experience this. It's serious side effects are: memory loss, dark patches on skin, painful urination, vaginal bleeding, depression, spotting, heart attack and swelling of the legs and arms.

 

Before taking Provera, tell your doctor if:

• You are allergic to it

• You have any other illness

• You have any other allergies

• You have liver or kidney disease

• You have had a miscarriage before

• You have high blood pressure

• You have asthma

• You have heart related illness such as heart attack, heart failure and stroke
