Generic Zanaflex (Tizanidine)

Zanaflex is used to treat muscle spams. This condition is brought about by multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury. The drug works by relaxing muscles hence you can exercise and walk better. Take Zanaflex as prescribed by your doctor. It is taken by mouth in every six to eight hours. The dosage is based on your response to treatment, medical condition and other drugs you are using. Your doctor may instruct you to start this medication at a low dose and increase it gradually to reduce your risk to side effects. When taking Zanaflex, follow your doctor's directions carefully. The maximum dose is 36 milligrams a day. You can take this medication with or without food. Your body absorbs this drug differently when you take a meal or on an empty stomach. 

 

Do not stop taking the medication without your doctor's approval. Zanaflex can cause withdrawal symptoms such as increased blood pressure and uneven heartbeats. Also, do not increase or reduce the dose  unless your doctor says so. Store this medicine at room temperature away from children and pets. 

 

Some of the common side effects of using this medication are: constipation,  dry mouth, dizziness, unusual tiredness and drowsiness. To  reduce dry mouth feeling, suck on ice chips or sugarless gum. Remember to drink a lot of water to put an end to this. The  serious side effects of Zanaflex are: blurred vision, fainting, uneven heartbeats, hallucinations, stomach pain, yellowing of the skin, nausea, rash and trouble breathing. Contact your doctor at once if you experience the same. 

 

Before taking Zanaflex, inform your doctor if:

• You have low blood pressure

• You are allergic to the drug

• You have kidney problems

• You have liver problems

• You consume alcohol

• You are expectant or intend to be
