Generic Vytorin (Ezetimibe/Simvastatin)

Vytorin is a drug that is used with other medications to reduce bad cholesterol and increase good fats in the blood. This medication belongs to the statins class of drugs. It works by lowering the amount of cholesterol your body takes in from your diet. Lowering the amount of fats in blood helps reduce the risk of getting heart diseases such as strokes. When taking Vytorin, ensure you eat a balanced diet for instance, one that is low in cholesterol. Take this medication as prescribed by your doctor. Vytorin is taken orally with or without food. You can take it once on a daily basis. Always take Vytorin in the evening. The normal dose for Simvastatin is 40 milligrams daily. Do not increase or reduce your dose unless your doctor says so. Read the Patient Information Leaflet you receive from your pharmacist before you proceed to take Vytorin. Ask your doctor or pharmacist any questions you may have. The dosage is based on your medical condition, age, response to treatment and other drugs you may be using. 

 

Do not increase or reduce the dose than prescribed. This may increase the risk of side effects and your condition may worsen as well. When using Vytorin, avoid using grapefruit products unless your doctors says so. If you are using other drugs to reduce cholesterol, take them at least two or four hours before taking Vytorin. Doing so will prevent adverse side effects with the drug. Take this medication frequently to get the most of it. To help you remember take this drug the same time each day. You might be required to take this medicine your entire life because most of the people with high cholesterol rarely feel sick. It may take up to four weeks to enjoy the full benefits of this drug. 

 

Some of the side effects of Vytorin are: muscle pain, kidney problems, unusual weakness, itching, swelling of the face, tongue or throat and trouble breathing. If you notice these side effects, tell your doctor immediately. 

 

Before taking Vytorin, tell your doctor if: 

• You have kidney and liver problems

• You take alcohol

• You are pregnant

• You are using other medications
