Generic Zetia (Ezetimibe)

Ezetimibe is a drug that is used with other medications to reduce the level of cholesterol in blood. This medicine belongs to the 'statins' class of drugs. It works by reducing the amount of fats your body takes in from your diet. Low cholesterol levels are healthy for your body. They reduce the risk of contracting heart problems such as heart attacks and strokes. 

 

Take Ezetimibe as prescribed by your doctor. Take this medicine by mouth once a day with or without food. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Read the Medication Guide carefully before you start taking this medication. Use it every time you get a refill. If you are using other drugs such as colestipol, take Ezetimibe at least two or four hours after taking colestipol. Taking Ezetimibe with such medications will reduce the rate of absorption of the medicine into your body. 

 

Take this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it. Remember to take it the same time every day. Do not increase the dose more than prescribed. This will expose you to severe side effects. Also continue taking Ezetimibe even when you feel well. Most of the people who suffer from this condition rarely feel sick. It may take up to two weeks until you get the full benefit of this drug. Store the medication in a cool, dry place. 

 

The possible side effects of Ezetimibe are: stomach pain,, yellowing of the skin, weakness, muscle pain, vomiting and fever. Some of the serious side effects of this drug include: dizziness, trouble breathing, itching, and swelling of the face, tongue or throat. 

 

Precautions if:

• You have liver disease

• You are allergic to the drug 

• You have any other allergies

• You are pregnant

• You are using any other medication

• You are about to undergo surgery
