Generic Zocor (Simvastatin)

Zocor (Simvastatin) is a drug that is used to reduce bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol. This medicine belongs to the statins class of drugs. It works by lowering the amount of fats produced by the liver. It is important to reduce cholesterol in the body to prevent the risk of heart problems such as heart attacks and strokes. Also, ensure you take a proper diet when using this medication. Keep in mind to exercise properly and restrain from smoking and taking foods that have high levels of calories. Take this medication as prescribed by your doctor. Zocor is taken by mouth with or without food. This drug is usually taken once in a day in the evening. Most Chinese patients using niacin are required to use smaller doses of Zocor. The maximum dose for Simvastatin is 40 milligrams per day. 

 

Do not increase or reduce your dose more than prescribed. This may worsen your condition and expose you to serious side effects. When taking Zocor, avoid using grapefruit products such as Grapefruit. Zocor has the following common side effects: muscle pain, kidney problems, weakness and nausea.  Contact your doctor right away if you notice these serious side effects: liver problems, dark urine, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat and trouble breathing.
