Dipyridamole is used to cure clots that form after heart valve substitutions. It has commonly been referred to as an antiplatelet drug.  This drug works by helping blood to flow smoothly hence putting a stop to platelets that cluster together. This way heart blood vessels stay open. Clots are very serious heart problems that may lead to heart attacks, strokes and blockage of blood vessels in the lungs, a condition known as pulmonary embolism. Dipyridamole is combined with blood thinners such as Warfarin to treat blood clots.

Dosage:

Take this medication as prescribed by your physician. Usually individuals are urged to take the drug four times a day. You should use this medication frequently to attain its full benefits.

Usage:

Dipyridamole is taken orally as directed by your medical doctor. The drug  is administered depending on your response to treatment and medical circumstances.

Side Effects:

When using Dipyridamole you will experience certain side effects. These are: vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, flushing, stomach upset, swelling of the lips, face and throat, trouble breathing, mild itching and skin rashes. Get immediate medical help if you encounter these side effects. Some serious side effects of Dipyridamole are: severe headache, confusion, blurred vision, slurred speech and some weakness on one side of your body. You may also experience, yellowing of the eyes, abnormal bleeding, fainting and discharging dark urine than usual.

Precautions:

Before using Dipyridamole , it is important to inform your doctor if:

You have any other allergies

You have heart problems such as heart attacks, strokes, severe coronary artery disease

You have liver disease

You have low blood pressure

You are pregnant or breastfeeding

You are using other drugs whether herbal, prescribed or not

Avoid alcohol when taking Dipyridamole. Older adults and children are warned against using this medication. Restrain from sharing this drug with anyone. Do not miss a dose but if you do, ensure you resume your normal dose calendar.  Also, do not take two doses of Dipyridamole at once.  If you happen to overdose this medication, seek urgent  medical care. Some signs of overdose include: weakness, dizziness, irregular heartbeat and sweating.
