Generic Micardis (Telmisartan)

Micardis, whose generic name is Telmisartan is a drug used in the treatment of  high blood pressure, hypertension and cardiovascular reduction.  The active ingredient is Micardis

 the drug comes in the form of tablet  that must be consumed with water. The tablet should not be chewed or crushed.

 

Dosage is strictly individualized to a patient and the condition it is being in. when used for treating hypertension the starting dosage is 40mg while if used for cardiovascular risk reduction, the recommended dosage is 80mg. 

The drug must be taken strictly as recommended by the doctor. For better results, the doctor may alter the dosage to larger amounts or even smaller amounts. The drug should not be used with alcohol because it will cause low blood pressure. More so, this interaction may aggravate the drugs side effects.

 

Works for the treatment of hypertension by preventing narrowing of blood vessels which primarily causes high blood pressure.   Also works by relaxing the blood muscles so that blood flows easily. In less common instances, micardi is used to reduce the chronic illnesses in persons aged 55 years and above. 

 

The common side effects are, 

• Diarrhea 

• Sinus pain

• Back pain

• Increased heartbeat

• Altered vision

Most of the side effects will however go away within a few days therefore no need to report to the doctor. However, where the symptoms persist for more than  a week , consult the doctor. In rare cases, patients will experience  skin ulcer and  intermittent claudication

 

The drug must never be used on pregnant women. Where a patient becomes pregnant while on the medication, she should inform the doctor immediately.  Specifically, using the drug during pregnancy the second or third trimester of a pregnancy may death of the unborn baby. 

In rare cases, the drug may cause breakdown in skeletal  muscle tissue. I f you experience this condition, consult the doctor immediately as it may lead to a kidney failure.
