Generic Hyzaar (Losartan/Hydrochlorothiazide)

Hyzaar is very useful in the treatment of high blood pressure. Those patients who have problem of high blood pressure are more likely to get stroke or enlarged heart. Such patients are often recommended to use Hyzaar. This drug works by lowering the high blood pressure and hence saves the body from heart strokes, kidney problems etc. Hyzaar usually contains two medications which are losartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Both of these medicines are capable of providing relaxation to the blood vessels which makes the flow of blood easier. Hydrochlorothiazide is a ‘’water pill’’ which makes the kidney to expel more water and salt through urination from the body.

 

In start when body tries to adjust itself to the medication, you may feel dizziness and light-headedness. These are some very common side effects however; if these side effects persists or get worse with time, then you should immediately visit the doctor. 

Remember that the doctor has prescribed you this medicine after completely examining your body and he knows that the medicine has more benefits and fewer side effects. Many people who take this medicine don’t feel any side effect. The drug may cause dehydration in your body. if you feel extreme level of water or mineral loss, you should consult the doctor. There are some possible side effects which a patient can feel in rare cases:

1. Breaking down of skeletal muscles tissue

2. Kidney failure

3. Pain in muscles 

4. Tenderness

5. Unusual tiredness

6. Dark coloured urine

 

Before you start taking Hyzaar, you should inform your doctor about the allergies if you have. There may be many inactive ingredients in the drug which can be the cause of the allergy in the body. You should tell your medical history to your doctor clearly. If you have experienced kidney disease, liver problem, severe loss of water or minerals, lupus, you should discuss it with your doctor.  While taking Hyzaar, one should keep himself away from the exertion since the body becomes quite weak after the use of Hyzaar. In start, you may feel diarrhoea or vomiting. Report your doctor about it If it gets prolonged. If you want to keep yourself safe from the dehydration, keep in taking water and other fluids regularly. 

 

Drug interaction has a direct effect on how your medication works in your body. It may increase the reaction of the Hyzaar in your body or it may also increase the side effects because of which, drug interaction should never be ignored. You should keep all the lists of the medications which you are using currently and show it your pharmacist. The doctor will recommend you a specific dosage of Hyzaar on the basis of the drugs you are already taking. You should not change the dosage of the medicine without having prescribed by the doctor. There are some products which directly interact with Hyzaar such as dofetilide, lithium, aliskiren etc. These drugs can increase the concentration of potassium in your body.
