Generic Minipress (prazosin hydrochloride)

Minipress are tablets that belong to the bladder function disorder medicines and they contain the active ingredient prazosin. Prazosin is a drug used to treat hypertension. It is classified in a group of drugs called alpha-adrenergic (AL-fa ad-ren-ER-jik) blockers.

 

Minipress should be used as per the doctor’s advice in the prescription label. The dosage is to be taken by mouth with or without food according to the schedule without missing a dose. However, if a dose is missed, take it immediately but do not take two dosages at the same time. The dosage should be adjusted according to the patients’ blood pressure response

 

Minipress is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is also used to treat Raynauds desease, where fingers become white and painful alongside treating other types of heart failures. Minipress works by relaxing blood vessels and the muscles around the urethra and reduces the resistance to blood flow. They are also used to treat prostate problems by increasing flow of urine as they relax muscles in the prostate grand. Minipress is not recommended for use in children under 12 years.

• Dizziness, fainting or lightheadedness when standing up

• Fast or pounding heart beat and chest pains

• Vomiting or dry mouth

• Penis election that is painful and lasts for more than four hours

• Difficulty breathing

• Weakness or lack of energy

• Swelling of the hanks, feet or ankles

Some of the conditions like drowsiness, headache and lack of energy are more common.

 

Tell your doctor your medical history before using the drug on any allergies and heart conditions. The drug may contain inactive ingredients which may cause allergic reactions. The drug may also cause dizziness too and therefore one is not required to use drive or operate machinery.
