Lomefloxacin whose brand society is maxaquin is an antibiotic in the class of fluoroquinolones. The drug is packaged in film coated tablets of 400mg formulation. Some of the inactive ingredients contained are hydroxypropyl cellulose and polyethylene glycol.
Dosage
Every dosage should be taken strictly as provided in the label. For maximum effectiveness, the drug should be taken at the exact same times each day. A patient should also take the dose in full even if they start feeling better. Under -dosing will not only affect the drug’s effectiveness but may increase the risk of the bacteria growing resistant to maxaquin.
In the event, you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However where that time coincides with the next dose, skip the forgotten dose and take the regular dose. Ideally, no two doses should be taken at the same time. Should be taken with a full glass of water or with food.
Usage
Kills sensitive bacteria and inhibits the survival of any bacterial by stopping the production of essential proteins that the bacteria needs to survive. The drug is used in a wide range of bacterial infections that include Urinary tract infections and bronchitis. The drug is however not effective in treating viral infections such as flu.
There are notable side effects noted with interaction with oral diabetic medications, anti- inflammatory drugs and common antibiotics.
Side effects
The side effects experienced just like in the use of drugs generic for maxaquin, the side effects are mild. Although the side effects in the use of the drugs are rarely anticipated, the common ones are,
• Lightheadedness
• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Loss of apetite
• Diarrhoea
Precautions
While on the drug, one must avoid driving because the drug causes dizziness.
Notably, certain conditions may not interact well with the medication and therefore must inform the doctor where they are experiencing such conditions. They include,
• where one is pregnant
• has kidney problems
• has heart problems
• have allergies to foods, medications
Most importantly, one should not start or stop using the drug without consulting a doctor.
