Generic Rebetol (Ribavirin)

Ribavirin is  a drug that is used to treat viral infections. This medicine is combined with antiviral drugs such as sofosbuvir to treat acute hepatitis C and infections of the liver for instance liver cirrhosis. Ribavirin works by managing hepatitis C virus in your body. This way, your liver will recover quickly. When using this medicine, you are advised to practise safe sex and avoid sharing sharp objects that may increase virus infection from one person to another.

 

Take the medication as prescribed by your physician. Make sure you read the prescription label before you start taking Ribavirin.  This medicine is taken orally through the mouth. You can take Ribavirin twice a day with or without food. When taking Ribavirin solution, ensure you use a measuring spoon to get the correct dose. This drug is administered based on your age, medical condition, response to treatment and weight. You can also take this drug with other antiviral medicines to put a stop to symptoms and infections. 

 

When taking Rebetol, ensure you drink a lot of water to reduce the risk of contracting adverse side effects. 

 

Some of the side effects experienced by using Rebetol include: weight loss, blurred vision, loss of appetite, dry skin, headache, coughing, diarrhea, dizziness and stomach upset. It is important to observe that most people who use this drug have less serious side effects. Inform your doctor if you experience adverse side effects such as joint pain, easy bleeding, yellowing of skin, abnormal tiredness, dark urine and uneven heartbeats. 

 

To determine if you are the best candidate for Ribavirin, inform your doctor if:

• You have kidney or liver disease

• You are allergic to Ribavirin

• You have high blood pressure

• You consume alcoholic drinks

• You have heart conditions such as heart  attacks

• You have sickle cell anemia

• You suffer from diabetes
