Cefixime is used to treat various bacterial infections. This medication works by preventing the growth of bacteria. It is also referred to as Cephalosporin antibiotic. It is less effective in treating viral infections such as cold.
Dosage
Cefixime should be taken according to your doctor's directions. It is taken orally with or without food. You can take it once daily. In children however, this medication is taken twice a day in every twelve hours. It is available in chewable and long-lasting tablets. If you are using the chewable tablets, chew them thoroughly before swallowing. When using Extended tablets, avoid crushing, chewing and breaking. Swallow them whole with a glass of water. This dosage is administered according to your medical condition and response to treatment. In children, this dosage is administered based on your weight.
Usage
Follow the instructions on the Medication Guide before taking Cefixime. Always take the drug at evenly spaced intervals. Do not change, increase or reduce the dose without your doctor's permission. This is because do so will hasten the growth of bacteria in your body. Inform your doctor if the condition persist.

Cefixime has the following side effects: nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, stomach pain, dark urine, unusual tiredness, sore throat, kidney problems, mental changes and easy bleeding or brushing. If you notice these symptoms, alert you doctor or seek immediate medical advice. Do not attempt to cure yourself with other drugs as this may worsen the condition. Exercise caution when handling this medication. Store this medicine in a cool, dry place. Also, keep it away from children.
