Generic Zithromax (Azithromycin)

Zithromax or Acyclovir is a drug that is used to treat a variety of viruses. This drug can treat shingles caused by herpes zoster, chickenpox and cold sores. This is an antiviral drug that works by reducing the number of outbreaks that you may encounter in future. However this medicine is not a cure for HIV. It helps sores heal faster and prevents new sores from developing. In the same manner, this medication reduces itching. Acyclovir is very effective in people who have a weakened immune system. It reduces the risk of spreading the virus to other parts of the body.  Seek medical advice before you start using this medication. 

 

Take Zithromax as directed by your doctor. This medication is taken with or without food. It is also taken orally two to five times a day as prescribed by your doctor. If you are using a liquid form of this drug, use a special measuring spoon to get the correct dose. Avoid using a household spoon that will give you a wrong impression of the medicine. When using Zithromax, doctors have advised that you consume plenty of fluids to aid in the absorption process. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. In children however, the dosage is based on weight. 

 

Take this medicine regularly to get the most of it. Start medication immediately when you notice signs and symptoms of shingles or herpes zoster.  Zithromax works best when the amount of medicine is kept at a constant level therefore you should take this medication at evenly spaced intervals. Remember to take it the same time every day. Continue to take this medicine even when you feel well. Do not miss, skip or stop medication without your doctor's permission. 

 

The possible side effects of using this medication are: vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and headache. The serious side effects are: confusion, drowsiness, trouble speaking, hallucinations, seizures, blurred vision and yellowing of the skin. Seek immediate medical help if you experience these symptoms. 

 

Before you take this medicine, tell your doctor if:

• You are using other medications

• You are pregnant

• You suffer from genital herpes
