Generic Wellbutrin (Bupropion)

Wellbutrin is a drug that is used to treat depression. It works by restoring the balance of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain. This medicine is also used to treat bipolar disorders and reduce cravings among persons who are addicted to smoking. You can also use Wellbutrin to treat anxiety in people who suffer from depression. Wellbutrin can also be used to treat other conditions not listed here. However, before doing so, ensure you seek medical advice from a qualified health care professional. 

 

Take Wellbutrin as prescribed by your doctor. Read the Medication Guide if available before you start taking the medication and every time you get a refill. This medicine is taken by mouth with or without food. Take Wellbutrin once a day usually in the morning. If you experience stomach upset, you may take this drug with food. The dosage is administered based on your liver function, medical condition and response to treatment. 

 

Take Wellbutrin frequently to get the most of it. To help you remember, take this medication the same time every day. Do not chew or crush the extended-release tablets. This may increase the risk of side effects. If you are breaking the tablets, ensure they have a score line before doing so. Also, you can only break the tablets if your doctor directs you to. It is therefore advisable to swallow the pill whole without chewing or crushing. Do not increase or reduce the dose without approval from your doctor. Your condition may worsen instead of healing. It may take up to four weeks until you get the full benefit of this drug. Inform your doctor if your condition persist. Store this medicine at room temperature, away from heat, light and moisture. 

 

The common side effects of using Wellbutrin are: nausea, headache, ringing in the ears, sore throat, constipation, weight loss, trouble sleeping, sweating and loss of appetite. The serious side effects are: memory loss, unexplained weight gain and loss, seizures and uneven heartbeats. 

 

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if:

• You suffer from seizures
