Strattera is used to treat ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). This medicine works by increasing attention and reducing impulsiveness among ADHD patients. It is available in Attentrol capsules in 10, 18 and 25 mg. The active ingredient in Attentrol is Atomoxetine Hydrochloride. This medication can also be used to treat other conditions not provided here.
Dosage
Take Strattera as directed by your doctor. The initial dose for children and adults is 40mg per day. Adults who weigh over 70kilograms can take the 40mg dose. This medication can take about a week to obtain full benefits. Your doctor may direct that you take the treatment for a duration of six to eight weeks to ascertain its effectiveness. Do not change the dose until you consult with your doctor. This medication can be taken once or twice a day. Take it at the same time every day. This medicine is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. However, in children it is given based on the children's weight and height.
Usage
Strattera capsules come in different sizes. Take the correct dosage as prescribed by your doctor. Do not crush, chew or break the capsules. Instead swallow them whole with a glass of water or milk. If you have a child who is unable to swallow the medicine, inform your doctor to prescribe a different drug. Wash your hands if you come in contact with a broken capsule. If that powder gets into your eyes, rinse them with cold tap running water immediately. Avoid skipping a dose or taking an overdose. Store Attentrol capsules at room temperature, away from light, heat and moisture.
Side Effects
The common side effects of Strattera in children are dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite and mood swings. In adults, they include: dry mouth, trouble sleeping, dry mouth, constipation and trouble passing urine.
Precautions
Before taking Strattera capsules, tell your doctor if:
