Generic Symmetrel (Amantadine Hydrochloride)

Amantadine is used to treat influenza A. This medication reduces symptoms of Influenza A swiftly. It is advisable to take Amantadine if you have been exposed to the flu. This medicine works by preventing the growth and spread of the flu virus. You can get a flu injection at the beginning of the year to reduce chances of contracting Influenza A. This drug is also used to treat Parkinson's disease and its side effects. Amantadine works by managing neurotransmitters in the brain. 

 

This medication should be taken according to the doctor's prescriptions. Amantadine is taken by mouth. You can take it with or without food. Normally it is taken once or twice a day as  prescribed by your doctor. The drug is available in solution form. If you are taking the liquid form, use a special measuring spoon to get the correct dose. The dose is administered based on your medical condition and response to treatment. In children it is based on body weight. 

 

Take this medicine the same time every day. Take Amantadine as soon as you notice symptoms of a viral infection. To achieve the most out of this medicine, take it at evenly spaced intervals. Do not discontinue medication even when you feel better. Inform your doctor if the symptoms persist. In Parkinson's disease, the medication may take a while until the full benefits are seen. 

 

Amantadine has these side effects: headache, blurred vision, nausea, dry mouth, trouble sleeping, constipation, swelling of the feet, depression, rash, itching, swelling on the face, lips and tongue, seizures, reduced sex drive, uneven heartbeat and abnormal sweating. 

 

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have:

• Glaucoma

• Any allergies

• Kidney disease

• Seizures

• Heart Problems

• Blood Pressure complications
