Flibanserin (Generic Addyi)

Flibanserin is also known as generic ADDYI. Its chemical name is 2H­Benzimidazol-2-one, 1,3-dihydro-1-[2-[4-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-1-piperazinyl]ethyl]. Flibanserin comes in the form of an off white or white powder. The main component of the Addyi drug is 100mg of Flibanserin. Other components include hypromellose, magnesium, stearate, macrogol, lactose monohydrate, sodium, talc, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose, and coloring agents that are iron oxide and titanium dioxide. It is used to cure and manage low libido before menopause in women. It is only recommended for women who have not encountered any previous issues with sexual desires. The lack of sex drive should not be as a result of a pre existing medical condition, mental illness, medication and relationship troubles.

Dosage

It is used orally in 100 mg doses that are oval in shape and film coated. Each tablet consists of the symbol “f100” on one face.

Usage

Generic Addyi should be taken before sleeping daily for the prescribed period. If ingested during working hours it could result in hypotension, injury, syncope plus somnolence and sedation which are depressions in the central nervous system. Patients should not attempt to double their doses if they skip a day, they should instead take the next dose on the following night. It should be taken for only 8 weeks unless symptoms persist. If symptoms persist consult a physician on the next course of action. If you are on strong inhibitors such as CYP3A4, use Addyi two weeks after the CYP3A4 prescription has ended.

Side effects

The side effects of Addyi are;

• Hives;
• Irregular breathing;
• Swelling of lips,  face, throat and tongue.
• Extreme drowsiness;
• Dizzy spells
• Dry mouth

Precautions

Certain precautions should be taken when using Addyi, they include;

• Avoid using Addyi with medications such as cimetidine, resveratrol and gingko bilobac
• Follow instructions of use carefully.
