Generic Xeloda (Capecitabine)

Capecitabine is a drug that is used to treat various conditions. This medicine is used to treat rectal, breast and colon cancer. It is therefore suitable for use in male and female persons. Capecitabine works by stopping the growth of cancer cells in the body. You can use this drug to treat other conditions not stated here. Prior to this, make sure you seek proper medical advice. 

 

Take this medication as prescribed by your doctor. Read the Patient Information Leaflet carefully before you start taking Capecitabine. This drug is taken by mouth. Normally it is taken two times a day, in the morning and evening. Do not crush, chew or break the tablets instead swallow the tablets whole with a glass full of water. Capecitabine can be taken before or after a meal. Take these tablets thirty minutes after a meal. Usually this medicine is taken for two weeks and discontinued for a week when undergoing treatment. This dosage is based on your weight, medical condition and response to treatment. 

 

Do not increase or reduce your medication other than prescribed by your doctor. This will increase your risk of side effects and your condition may worsen as well. Pregnant women should refrain from using this drug. Capecitabine can be absorbed through the lungs and skin. As a result it may end up causing harm to the unborn baby. Store this medicine in a cool, dry place away from children. 

 

Capecitabine has the following side effects: constipation, nausea, diarrhea loss of appetite, dizziness, unusual tiredness. Diarrhea can be prevented by drinking plenty of water. Alert your doctor if you experience these side effects: sores in the mouth, severe vomiting and swelling of the hands and feet. This is not a complete list of Capecitabine side effects. Inform your doctor if you experience side effects not listed here. 

 

Before taking Capecitabine, tell your doctor if: 

• You have kidney disease

• You have liver problems

• You have heart problems

• You suffer from blood disorders

• You are using other medications
